Alibaba Plans Hong Kong Initial Public Offering for Online Wholesale Unit

(Bloomberg) -- Alibaba.com Corp., operator of Yahoo!
Inc.'s Web site in China, said the company plans a Hong Kong
listing for a subsidiary that helps businesses buy and sell
products over the Internet.

Chief Executive Officer Jack Ma told employees at a July 28
meeting in East China's Hangzhou city, where Alibaba is based,
that the company had taken the first steps for listing its so-
called business-to-business e-commerce unit, Porter Erisman, a
spokesman for Alibaba.com, said today by telephone from Beijing.

European Stocks May Drop; Technology, Energy, Financial Shares May Decline

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks may fall, paced by
technology shares after Intel Corp. and Yahoo! Inc. of the U.S.
said competition is hurting profit. U.S.-traded securities of Arm
Holdings Plc slipped.

Financial stocks might drop after Bear Stearns Cos. told
investors there's ``little value left'' in its two failed hedge
funds. Energy shares including BP Plc and Total SA will probably
follow declines by their U.S. counterparts yesterday after crude
oil dropped from an 11-month high.

US futures hint at Wall St fall, inflation data due

(Reuters) - Earnings season is getting into full swing, with several
major blue chips due to report on Tuesday, including top
chipmaker Intel Corp , Merrill Lynch and Yahoo
Inc. .




Economic data include wholesale inflation for June, which
may give a taste of Wednesday's report on consumer inflation
that is usually more influential in reinforcing the market's
expectations on the course of U.S. monetary policy.

Whole Foods CEO panned Wild Oats in Web postings

(Reuters) - Company CEO John Mackey posted messages on a Yahoo! financial forum under the user name "rahodeb," according to a court document filed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and postings on Yahoo!




Mackey's messages painted a bright future for Whole Foods, the largest U.S. natural and organic grocer, and downplayed the threat posed by competitors.

US STOCKS-Futures slip before housing data, Yahoo higher

(Reuters) - Shares of Internet media company Yahoo Inc. traded
up more than 5 percent in Europe, however, so a bounce in
technology could cushion the market.




Expedia Inc. could also lend support with news the
online travel company planned to buy back up to $3.5 billion of
its stock. Its stock shot up 13.7 percent in electronic trade
to $29.

US STOCKS-Futures dip ahead of housing data, Yahoo up

(Reuters) - Shares of Internet media company Yahoo Inc. traded
up more than 5 percent in Europe, however, so a bounce in
technology could cushion the market.




Data on U.S. housing starts is due before the bell, a day
after a survey showed sentiment among U.S. home builders fell
in June to the lowest since February 1991.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Are Little Changed; Yahoo Gains, Microchip Falls

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures were little
changed before a housing report that may show the real-estate
slump will continue to weigh on economic growth.

Yahoo! Inc. climbed in Europe after the owner of the
country's most-visited Web site said Chief Executive Officer
Terry Semel stepped down and was replaced by co-founder Jerry
Yang. Exxon Mobil Corp. gained as oil traded near a nine-month
high.
