India's ICICI Bank net rises 25 pct, meets forecast

(Reuters) - A Reuters poll of 10 brokerages and analysts had forecast
24.6 percent rise in net profit to 7.7 billion rupees.




Total income for the quarter was 92.81 billion rupees, up
from 60.49 billion rupees a year ago.

Canada's Dollar Approaches 30-Year High After Commodity Prices Increase

(Bloomberg) -- Canada's dollar approached the 30-
year high reached yesterday as prices of the nation's main
commodity exports advanced, boosting the currency's appeal.

The currency has gained almost 12 percent this year on a
strengthening economy and higher prices for Canada's commodity
exports including oil. Crude oil prices touched an 11-month high
in New York after Total SA suspended deliveries from the Dalia
field in Angola because of a mechanical failure. Copper, gold
and silver also gained.

Crude Oil Rises 11-Month High After Total Declares Angolan Force Majeure

(Bloomberg) -- Crude oil rose to an 11-month high in
New York after Total SA lost production and declared force majeure
at the Dalia field in Angola.

Total's decision covered half the oil pumped at the field,
which had produced 240,000 barrels a day, said Patricia Marie, a
company spokeswoman. A generator failure caused the problem. Oil
also gained because the U.S. government said gasoline stockpiles
fell last week as imports plunged and demand climbed.

French stocks fell for a second day, paced by Total SA,
Europe's largest oil refiner. Air France-KLM Group and Renault
SA also declined.

European Stocks May Drop; Technology, Energy, Financial Shares May Decline

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks may fall, paced by
technology shares after Intel Corp. and Yahoo! Inc. of the U.S.
said competition is hurting profit. U.S.-traded securities of Arm
Holdings Plc slipped.

Financial stocks might drop after Bear Stearns Cos. told
investors there's ``little value left'' in its two failed hedge
funds. Energy shares including BP Plc and Total SA will probably
follow declines by their U.S. counterparts yesterday after crude
oil dropped from an 11-month high.

Algeria awards ethane plant contract to Total

(Reuters) - Algeria awarded a contract to France's Total SA on Monday to build and operate a steam cracking complex able to produce 1.4 million tonnes of ethane per year, officials said.

The project is worth over $3 billion and the plant, to be built on Algeria's northwest coast in partnership with state energy firm Sonatrach, will also produce polyethylene and ethylene glycol.

UPDATE 1-Gottschalks forecasts Q2 loss, lower FY profit

(Reuters) - The company said June sales at its stores open at least a
year fell 4.3 percent due to softness in several of its apparel
categories as well as in home store merchandise.




Total sales for the month decreased 5.8 percent to $57.5
million from $61.0 million a year earlier.

Dillard's June same-store sales fall 1 pct

(Reuters) - Total sales were $620.7 million for the five-weeks ended
July 7, compared with $622.8 million in the year-ago period,
the company said in a statement.

Bally Total Fitness gets alternate revamp plan

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 6 - Bally Total Fitness Holding Corp. on Friday said it is in discussions with a group of shareholders who proposed an alternate Chapter 11 reorganization plan for the struggling health club operator.



The shareholders -- four private equity funds -- sent the company a letter outlining a different plan from one presented last month and have agreed to complete their "due diligence" by July 20, the Chicago-based company said in a statement.

European Energy Stocks, Shell May Advance; UBS,Roche Shares May Decline

(Bloomberg) -- European oil stocks may rise as
Deutsche Bank AG raised its price estimates for companies
including Royal Dutch Shell Plc, BP Plc and Total SA.

UBS AG fell in pre-market trading after the world's biggest
money manager ousted Chief Executive Officer Peter Wuffli. Roche
Holding AG will probably drop after the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration said babies are at increased risk of death if they
are given the drugmaker's Rocephin along with products containing
calcium.

European Stocks Drop for Fifth Day; Total, BHP, Northern Rock Pace Decline

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks fell for a fifth day,
paced by energy and basic-resources shares as crude oil traded
near a nine-day low and metals prices dropped.

Total SA, the region's largest refiner, and BHP Billiton
Ltd., the world's biggest mining company, declined. Northern Rock
Plc tumbled after the U.K.'s seventh-largest bank said it expects
2007 profit growth to miss analysts' estimates as interest rates
rose more than expected.

European Stocks Rebound Amid Signs U.S. Economy Growing Without Inflation

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks rebounded this week
after the U.S. Federal Reserve said the world's biggest economy is
growing without causing inflation, consumer prices rose less than
forecast and several companies became the subject of takeover talk.

J Sainsbury Plc jumped after a Qatar fund bought shares in the
U.K. supermarket chain, while Wolseley Plc, Imperial Chemical
Industries Plc and BHP Billiton Ltd. rallied on renewed takeover
speculation. Total SA and Royal Dutch Shell Plc paced gains among
oil producers as crude prices touched a nine-month high.

UPDATE 1-Western Oil Sands stock surges after Total report

(Reuters) - CALGARY, Alberta, June 15 - Western Oil Sands
Inc. shares jumped nearly 7 percent on Friday after a
newsletter reported Total SA may bid for the company,
known for its stake in Canada's Athabasca Oil Sands Project.




Western climbed C$2.41 to C$37.91 on the Toronto Stock
Exchange on volume of nearly 6 million shares. The stock is up
16 percent this year.

Nigeria's Oil Production Fell 2.3 Percent in February, Central Bank Says

(Bloomberg) -- Oil production in Nigeria, Africa's
biggest producer, fell 2.3 percent in February, the central bank
said.

The west African country produced 2.15 million barrels per
day in the month, compared with 2.20 million barrels in January,
the Abuja-based Central Bank of Nigeria said today on its Web
site. Total output for the month was 60.2 million barrels,
compared with 68.2 million barrels in the previous month, it
said.

Dollar General May same-store sales climb

(Reuters) - Analysts, on average, had been expecting it to post a same-store sales increase of 3 percent, according to a Reuters survey.



Total sales for the four weeks ended June 2 climbed 6 percent to $733.1 million

French Stocks Including Michelin Gain; Total and Technip Decline With Oil

(Bloomberg) -- French stocks including Michelin &
Cie. and Cie. de Saint-Gobain advanced after crude oil fell in
New York. Total SA and Technip SA declined.

The CAC 40 Index was little changed at 6057.40 at 3:24 p.m.
in Paris. The SBF 120 Index also was little changed.

Silver May Rally 15 Percent by Year End on Investor Demand, Supply Decline

(Bloomberg) -- Silver may jump 15 percent by year-end
on increasing investor interest and limited supplies, said
Philip Klapwijk, executive chairman of precious-metals research
company GFMS Ltd.

Total silver supplies slipped 1.5 percent last year to
911.8 million ounces, GFMS said in a report published today by
the Washington-based Silver Institute. There is ``a pretty good
chance we're going to see another spike before 2007 is over'' and
the price could touch $15 an ounce, Kalpwijk said during a
presentation to investors in New York today.

Lowe's posts lower net, cuts year forecast

(Reuters) - Analysts on average expected 49 cents a share, according to Reuters Estimates.




Total sales rose 2 percent to $12.2 billion, helped by 15 store openings, but shy of the $12.5 billion expected by analysts. Sales at stores open at least a year, an important retail measure, fell 6.3 percent.
