Japan's Stocks Drop on U.S. Economy Concern, Stronger Yen; Sony Leads Fall

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks declined, led by Canon
Inc. and Sony Corp., on concern losses in the U.S. mortgage
market may slow the world's biggest economy.

Exporters also fell after the yen strengthened to a four-
month high against the dollar, eroding the value of their dollar-
denominated sales.

Asian Stocks Rebound From 1-Month Low; JFE, Nippon Steel Rise, Sony Falls

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rebounded from a one-
month low after higher profits at JFE Holdings Inc. and Nippon
Steel Corp. helped offset concerns of a slump in U.S. housing.

Sony Corp., the maker of Cyber-shot cameras and PlayStation 3
consoles, and James Hardie Industries NV, the biggest supplier of
home siding in the U.S., led declines after a report showed a
decline in U.S. housing investment.

Asia shares dip on tech outlook, bonds firm

(Reuters) - Nervous share trading bolstered save-haven investments, nudging up gold and lifting Japanese government bond futures to another six-week high.




The dollar, dogged by persistent worries about the fall-out from the U.S. housing and mortgage woes, was unable to hold on to Monday's modest gains and dipped to a two-month low against the yen. The firmer Japanese currency began to eat into gains notched up earlier by exporters like Sony Corp. and Canon Inc. .

Asian Shares Fall From a High; Honda, Japan Exporters Decline as Yen Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks fell, led by Japanese
exporters, after the dollar declined to a six-week-low against
the yen amid concern the U.S. economy is slowing.

Honda Motor Co., which last year made the bulk of its sales
in North America, slid the most in six weeks. Sony Corp., the
world's biggest game-console maker, had its biggest slump in
almost a month.

Japanese Stocks Rise, Led by Toyota; Topix Gains the Most in Eight Weeks

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks climbed, sending the
Topix index to its best performance in almost eight weeks.
Exporters led the advance after the Federal Reserve said the
housing slowdown won't keep the U.S. economy from expanding and
the yen weakened.

Toyota Motor Corp. advanced to a three-month high, while
Sony Corp. gained for the first time in five days.

Asian Stocks Drop, Led by Sony, DBS Group on Global Interest Rate Concern

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks fell this week, after
setting a new high, on concern rising global interest rates will
curb spending and investment worldwide. Sony Corp. and DBS Group
Holdings Ltd. declined.

``We are moving into a phase whereby long-term interest rates
will go a lot higher,'' said Chua Soon Hock, who manages about
$400 million at Asia Genesis Asset Management Pte in Singapore.
``You need to be defensive and preserve your capital.''

Japan Stocks Gain on Stronger-Than-Expected U.S. Growth; Shipowners Surge

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese shares advanced after
reports showed employment and manufacturing growth in the U.S.,
Japan's largest overseas market, expanded more than expected.

Sony Corp., the world's biggest video-game player, and
Honda Motor Co., which made more than half of its sales in North
America, led gains.

Asian Stocks Rise After U.S. Confidence Picks Up; Sony, Hyundai Motor Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rose for the first time
in five days after U.S. consumer confidence unexpectedly
improved, suggesting demand will strengthen in the region's
biggest export market.

Sony Corp. climbed to the highest in almost five years,
helped by a rating upgrade at HSBC Securities (Japan) Ltd.
Hyundai Motor Corp. gained after Woori Investment & Securities
Co. lifted its recommendation on the shares.
