ICICI, Reliance Communications Attract Investors to Their Biggest Loans

(Bloomberg) -- India's ICICI Bank Ltd. and Reliance
Communications Ltd. are getting their biggest loans as banks and
investors focus on safer credits.

ICICI, India's largest lender to consumers, hired Goldman
Sachs Group Inc. and Calyon among 10 firms to arrange a yen-
denominated loan equivalent to $1.5 billion, said Calyon, the
investment-banking unit of Credit Agricole SA. Reliance
Communications' $1 billion loan got twice as much in lending
offers, said Ramesh Venkat, group president for finance at the
parent company, Reliance ADA Group.

Gold miner Newmont has 2nd-quarter loss after charges

(Reuters) - Gold miner Newmont Mining Corp. posted a quarterly net loss on Thursday as a result of huge charges on the value of its discontinued merchant banking operation and the elimination of its gold hedge positions.

Still, the operating results of the world's No. 2 gold producer beat estimates, even as it sold less gold than a year earlier, but at higher average prices.

UPDATE 1-CanWest switches to bridge financing for Alliance

(Reuters) - CanWest, Canada's biggest media company, along with a
private-equity affiliate of Goldman Sachs have agreed to
pay C$53 a share to buy Alliance Atlantis, co-producer of the
hit "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" TV show, and owner of
Canadian specialty-TV channels.




CanWest's AA Acquisition Corp., which will acquire
Alliance, has written commitments from its banking syndicate
for bridge financing to complete the deal, the companies said
in separate statements.

Gold, Silver Little Changed After Drop on Concern Global Growth May Slow

(Bloomberg) -- Gold was little changed in Asia after
the biggest weekly decline in almost two months on concern that
global economic growth may slow, reducing the metal's appeal as a
hedge against inflation. Silver was also little changed.

Gold fell 3.3 percent last week amid a $2.1 trillion world
stock market rout and concern that U.S. subprime mortgage losses
may slow economic growth, reducing inflation. Investors usually
buy gold at time of rising raw material prices to preserve wealth.

Gold Heads for Weekly Decline in London on Dollar Rebound; Silver Drops

(Bloomberg) -- Gold fell in London, heading for the
biggest weekly decline in more than four months, as gains in the
dollar reduce demand for the metal as an alternative investment.
Silver also dropped.

Gold has declined 3.3 percent this week after the dollar
headed for the first weekly advance in seven against the euro.
European central banks have sold about two-thirds of the bullion
allowed under an agreement that runs through Sept. 26, World Gold
Council figures show.

US June newspaper help-wanted ads dip to 49-yr low

(Reuters) - "Already, there are signs that job advertising volume is
edging a little lower -- with very slight decreases in each of
the past two months," said Ken Goldstein, labor economist at
the Conference Board, in a statement.




"Business caution about near-term prospects for the
economy, and perhaps for their own businesses, may lead to a
little less hiring this autumn. Plus, the online business is
mature enough in that this is where help wanted ads originate
and may never appear in newspapers."

CORRECTED - RLPC-Continental funds VDO buy with 13.5 bln euro loan

(Reuters) - The financing package, which funds the acquisition and
refinances existing debt, is being arranged by Citigroup and
Goldman Sachs, the source told Reuters Loan Pricing Corp.




Continental is acquiring Siemens VDO for 11.4 billion euros,
in a deal that will create one of the leading automotive
electronics suppliers.

CEVA revises $1.4 bln high-yield note sale -lead

(Reuters) - All of the notes are available in euros and dollars. Price
guidance is due later on Thursday, with pricing expected early
next week, the bank said.




Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Bear Stearns,
UBS, JP Morgan and ABN AMRO are managing the sale.

Gold Climbs in London on Speculation Dollar Will Decline; Silver Advances

(Bloomberg) -- Gold snapped three consecutive days
of declines in London on speculation a drop in the value of the
dollar will increase demand for the precious metal as an
alternative investment. Silver also rose.

Gold has climbed 6.3 percent this year as the dollar
declined 3.8 percent against the euro. The dollar was little
changed today after the biggest gain in four months yesterday.

Infosys may announce European buy on Wednesday-TV

(Reuters) - A spokeswoman for Nasdaq-listed Infosys declined
comment.




Local media had earlier reported that Infosys, whose
customers include ABN AMRO , Goldman Sachs and
Airbus , was close to acquiring the finance and
accounting back-office services arm of Dutch consumer
electronics group Philips .

Gold pauses for breath, weak dollar supports

(Reuters) - Gold, along with other commodities, took a breather on Tuesday after a recent impressive rally, but higher prices could still be on the cards given the weak dollar and renewed investor interest.

The precious metal gained just over 7 percent, or nearly $50, from a trough at the end of June to a 10-week peak last Friday at $686 an ounce.

Arrow, Cumulus Media, Expedia, Hasbro, Merck: U.S. Equity Movers Final

(Bloomberg) -- The following is a list of companies
whose shares had unusual price changes in U.S. exchanges. Stock
symbols are in parentheses after company names. Share prices are
as of 4 p.m. in New York.

AMR Corp. (AMR US) rose the most since Jan. 3, gaining
$1.96, or 7.4 percent, to $28.59. A Goldman, Sachs & Co. analyst
boosted his earnings estimates for the parent company of American
Airlines for this year and 2008 based on lower projections for
fuel prices. Analyst Robert Barry increased his 2007 profit
estimate to $2.75 from $2.35, and his 2008 forecast to $4 from
$2.65. He raised his share-price forecast to $26 from $22.

REFILE-S&P slashes "AAA" ratings on some mortgage bonds

(Reuters) - Eight classes of mortgage bonds, including some issued by a
Goldman Sachs Group Inc. trust, were cut to "BBB" from
"AAA" as S&P applied its new assumptions, it said.

Gold Little Changed in Asia as Dollar Stabilizes After Decline Versus Euro

(Bloomberg) -- Gold was little changed in Asia
after falling for the first day in three yesterday as the
dollar's decline seemed to stall, reducing the precious metal's
appeal as an alternative investment. Silver declined.

Gold generally moves in tandem with the euro, which fell
for the second day yesterday after reaching a record against the
dollar on July 13. Gold has gained 4.5 percent while the euro
has risen 4.4 percent against the dollar this year. Europe's
single currency fell to $1.3776 at 10:16 a.m. in Singapore
compared with all-time high $1.3814 on July 13.

Gold steady near 5-week highs, dollar moves watched

(Reuters) - But dealers were cautious ahead of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's testimony to the U.S. Congress on Wednesday and Thursday that might influence the dollar.




Gold rose as high as $667.75 an ounce before dipping slightly to $666.90/667.70 by 0958 GMT, against $666.60/667.40 in New York late on Friday.

Gold steady near 5-week high, Tokyo market shut

(Reuters) - Gold held steady on Monday and was within sight of a five-week high hit last week but overall trading was sluggish in the absence of Japanese investors.

Other precious metals were mostly higher, with silver hovering near Friday's three-week highs. Tokyo's precious metals futures were closed for the Marine Day holiday.

Gold, Silver Decline in New York on Speculation That Euro Rally Will Stall

(Bloomberg) -- Gold and silver fell in New York on
speculation that the euro's rally against the dollar will stall,
reducing the appeal of precious metals as alternative
investments.

Gold generally moves in tandem with the euro, which fell
after earlier reaching a record high against the dollar. Before
today, gold had gained 4.8 percent this year while the euro had
climbed 4.5 percent against the dollar.

Gold near 5-week high, Tokyo platinum hits record

(Reuters) - Gold drifted down on Friday but hovered near its highest in five weeks reached the previous day as the weakness in the dollar and healthy technical trends induced fresh fund inflows.

Tokyo Commodity Exchange platinum futures hit another record high on a labour dispute in South Africa, but they ran out of steam by the mid-session close as Japanese investors lightened their postions ahead of the three-day weekend in Japan.

CORRECTED - Ariel Capital exits DeVry, cuts Career Education stake

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 10 - Chicago-based Ariel Capital
Management LLC said on Tuesday it sold its shares in for-profit
education company DeVry Inc. and sharply reduced its
stake in Career Education Corp. , another for-profit
education company.




Ariel hasn't yet reported its exit from DeVry in a
regulatory filing and won't comment further on the sale of its
stake, Ariel analyst Bob Goldsborough said.

Platinum Futures Gain in New York as Dollar Falls to Record Versus Euro

(Bloomberg) -- Platinum rose in New York after the
dollar fell to a record against the euro, boosting the precious
metal's appeal as an alternative investment. Palladium also
gained.

Gold, silver and platinum often move in the opposite
direction of the dollar. The euro climbed to $1.3784 today, the
highest since the currency's debut in 1999. Before today,
platinum had climbed 15 percent this year and reached a record
$1,353.80 on May 7.
