EU says Intel made 3 kinds of antitrust violations

(Reuters) - chips at below cost, the European Commission said on Friday.



On Thursday the Commission, the European Union's top antitrust regulator, issued formal charges against Intel for allegedly using illegal tactics against smaller rival Advanced Micro Devices .

EU Carbon Emission Permits Fall to Two-Month Low as Allocations Are Raised

(Bloomberg) -- European Union carbon dioxide permits
for 2008 fell to a two-month low after the European Commission
raised the allocation of emission allowances for Ireland and Latvia
in the five years through 2012, increasing supply.

The July 13 decision increases the total number of permits
allocated by 1.08 million metric tons of carbon dioxide a year.
Permits for December 2008 fell 89 cents, or 4.5 percent, to 19
euros ($26.19) a ton at 3:45 p.m. local time on the European
Climate Exchange in Amsterdam.

European Emission Permits Fall After Allocations Raised, Imports Curbed

(Bloomberg) -- European Union carbon dioxide permits
for 2008 fell near a two-month low after the European Commission
raised the allocation of emission permits for Ireland and Latvia in
the five years through 2012, increasing supply.

The commission, the regulatory arm of the EU, has ruled on the
requests for allocations of 22 out of the EU's 27 member nations.
It forced an average cut of 9.4 percent for a total of 1.898
billion metric tons a year, according to a statement on July 13.

Carbon Emission Permits Decline After Ireland Contests Allocation for 2008

(Bloomberg) -- European Union carbon dioxide permits
declined for the first day in three as Ireland contested a
November ruling by the European Commission that it hand out 6.2
percent fewer allowances in the five years through 2012.

Emission permits for delivery in December 2008 fell 68
cents, or 3.1 percent, to close at 21.12 euros ($28.76) a metric
ton, according to prices from the European Climate Exchange in
Amsterdam. They earlier today traded at 22.30 euros, their
highest since July 2.

Carbon Emission Permits Pare Gains as Ireland Contests Allocation for 2008

(Bloomberg) -- European Union carbon dioxide permits
pared gains as Ireland contested a November ruling by the
European Commission that it hand out 6.2 percent fewer allowances
in the five years through 2012.

Emission permits for delivery in December 2008 added 4
cents, or 0.2 percent, to 21.84 euros ($29.77) a metric ton,
according to prices from the European Climate Exchange in
Amsterdam at 10:49 a.m. local time. They earlier traded at 22.30
euros, their highest since July 2.

Africa must seal new trade deals with EU - Michel

(Reuters) - African countries must agree new trade deals with Europe by the end of the year or risk losing valuable commerce, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid Louis Michel said on Friday.

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) outlawed the European Union's preferential trade terms for nearly 80 of its African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) former colonies in 2001, but granted a waiver until the end of 2007.

EU Will Urge `Rigorous Implementation' of Hungary's Budget-Cutting Plan

(Bloomberg) -- The European Union will urge
Hungary's government to carry out a ``rigorous implementation''
of measures to cut the budget deficit, warning the plan is still
subject to ``risks and uncertainties,'' a draft report says.

The plan to reduce the EU's widest budget by two-thirds by
2009 ``crucially hinges'' on ``the effective enforcement of the
expenditure cuts, including through reinforced budgetary
rules,'' according to the draft of the European Commission
report obtained by Bloomberg.
